Sclerotherapy

What are varicose and spider veins?

Varicose veins (large, raised, swollen blood vessels that twist and turn) and spider veins (small purple blood vessels) are caused by venous insufficiency resulting from having weakened or damaged vessels due to genetic inheritance, prolonged standing, pregnancy, and hormonal changes.

Apart from negatively impacting your physical appearance, varicose and spider veins can cause pain, itching, bleeding, swelling of the legs or ankles and a heavy feeling in the legs.

What is sclerotherapy?

Sclerotherapy-Training-for-Medical-Profe

Sclerotherapy is a non-surgical procedure  in which a sclerosing solution made up of salt water, sugar and alcohol is injected with a very fine needle directly into the blood vessels. The solution irritates the lining of the vein wall causing it to swell and later, to stick together. Over a period of a few weeks, the vein starts to fade and eventually becomes barely visible.

A standard vein removal appointment at our clinic lasts about one hour and optimal results generally require 3-4 treatments.

In most cases, about 60 to 80% of treated vessels will be permanently treated. â€‹
